Domestic Violence is often a multi-generational problem and a victim may have multiple offenders in his / her lifetime. Many people attempt to break the cycle by changing relationships, but often a person drags old patterns into the next relationship and the abuse continues.
Effectively breaking the cycle involves taking a hard look at yourself and learning to recognize those patterns of behavior that perpetuate the cycle of abuse. It involves learning new healthy behaviors and empowering yourself to practice them, making your new self-image incompatible with being abused.
Each offender is 100% responsible for his or her behavior, as are victims. When each individual takes responsibility for his / her own actions and becomes accountable for one’s own behavior, the problem of domestic violence can be solved.
Shasta Treatment Associates' Domestic Violence Program offers clinical groups for partners of domestic violence offenders. When both partners are involved in the process of change, there is an improved likelihood for success in breaking the cycle of domestic violence.
